Karlsruher Institut Für Technologie ARMAR-6
ARMAR-6 is an advanced collaborative humanoid robot designed for industrial environments. Engineered to work safely and efficiently alongside humans, ARMAR-6 proactively assists with tasks and interacts naturally with its operators. Its humanoid form enables it to handle standard human tools—such as power drills and hammers—without modification.
Powered by state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, ARMAR-6 can independently perform maintenance operations, detect when a human collaborator requires help, and offer timely assistance. Its design emphasizes adaptability, allowing it to operate effectively even in unanticipated situations not pre-programmed into its system.
The robot’s mobile base houses four high-performance computers that manage control systems, image processing, interaction protocols, and AI/machine learning algorithms. The system runs on the ArmarX software framework and is powered by an onboard battery, ensuring fully autonomous, cable-free operation.
Each joint in the robot’s arms features a custom-developed, rugged sensor-actuator-controller module, incorporating an electric motor, reduction gear, sensors, control electronics, and embedded controllers. Slip rings enable continuous joint rotation, while multiple control modes support both precision movements and force-sensitive interactions.
